PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY
Sheriff Randy Smith is a 35-year veteran law enforcement officer. A native of Slidell and a lifetime resident of St. Tammany Parish, Randy has dedicated himself to serving the public and advancing law enforcement his entire life. Prior to his becoming Sheriff of St. Tammany Parish in 2016, he was the elected Chief of the Slidell Police Department from May 2010 until June 2016. In his very first election, he was elected Chief of the Slidell Police Department with 60% of the vote. He was then reelected to a second term as Chief of the Slidell Police Department in 2014. In November of 2015, Chief Smith was elected Sheriff of St. Tammany Parish defeating 20-year incumbent Jack Strain. In 2019 Sheriff Smith ran for re-election and won against Tim Lentz. Sheriff Smith is proud to serve as the 42nd Sheriff in the 207-year history of St. Tammany Parish.
